Thinking about getting the Windy Nation Solar Panel Kit for your RV or van? Check out our experience with it below, what we liked, what we didn’t like, and much more.

The Details

The Windy Nation 400-Watt Complete Solar Charging kit has all the components you need to harness free, sustainable energy for your RV, camper, or overland rig. The kit includes:

  • Four solar panels, each 100-Watt
  • LCD 30-Amp solar charge controller that you can adjust
  • Battery temperature sensor
  • Wiring connections
  • 40 ft. of UL Listed 12 AWG Solar Cable
  • 16 fastener sets with mounting brackets

Windy Nation manufacturers provide user-friendly instructions on setting up and mounting the system on your RV or anywhere you might want to use it. You will need to buy either a 12 volt or 24-volt battery, depending on your system, along with a DC-to-AC inverter to begin utilizing viable energy from the sun.

Once the setup is complete, you can harness solar energy from wherever you decide to park, as long as there’s ample sun.

Of course, the more sun exposure these panels receive, the more energy you’ll get, and consequently, the more power you’ll have to fuel all of your electronic needs like charging phones, cooking, or using power tools.

The battery sensor and solar charge controller has an LCD screen that shows you how much energy your panels generate with information such as charging amperage, battery voltage, and battery temperature. All this data is key to knowing how much energy you have to plan your day accordingly.

Windy Nation claims that these panels harness on average 1600-Watt Hours on a sunny day in most parts of the continental USA. If you are in a particularly sunny part of the US, you could draw a whopping 3000-Watt Hours.

What I Liked

I liked that this kit comes with a wealth of components and setup instructions that are easy to follow for even the least tech-savvy RV owner.

Plus, I found that the amount of energy harnessed on a sunny day could more than handle any charging needs. For example, I could charge my phones and tablets while also powering the microwave, electric stove, and fridge.

Since I enjoy off-roading and navigating bumpy twists and turns, I need durable panels. These Windy Nation panels were definitely up to the task, and I found that they’re secure and safe after the first installment.

I always look for a decent warranty because I use it to gauge the manufacturer’s confidence in their products’ functionality. Windy Nation surprised me with a 5-year warranty on the panels, a one-year warranty on all other components, and a 25-year power output warranty.

The Windy Nation Solar Panel Kit is one of my top picks for the best RV solar panels.

Complaints

While you do get a lot of bang for your buck with this kit, you have to factor in additional costs of components that it does not include, namely the battery and DC-to-AC inverter. Plus, the battery requires a specific voltage that may not be compatible with the batteries you want to charge.

It took me a while to figure all of this out, as I had never worked with Windy Nation models before. I had to spend a lot of time looking up terminology and watching YouTube videos to inform myself. Therefore, I would recommend asking questions and doing your research based on what batteries you have and what you want to charge to make sure this kit is suitable for you.

I also found that the cables they provide could stand an upgrade to a 4 or 6 gauge to improve efficiency, so the power you reap from the panels provides greater energy for more electronics. WindyNation suggests you purchase their auto-resetting fuses, but I don’t think they are as good as other brands.

Reviews From Other RVers

This product was well-received by other buyers, who gave excellent and helpful reviews of their experiences. The reviews were almost unanimous in their praise of how easy it is to set up with clear-cut instructions and excellent customer service.

They also reported satisfaction on functionality and longevity, stating that many of them have had these panels for years, and they provide way more energy than they could need.

Furthermore, reviewers were impressed by the speed of delivery and that the entire kit fits in one box.

The only complaints that surfaced were about trying to return the product, which cost more in shipping than the actual cost of the panels.

Final Thoughts

Windy Nation Solar Panel Kits offer an affordable and complete solar panel kit that fits securely to your RV.

While the panels may not be compatible with the battery or other components you already own, they have a high-efficiency rate. With regular sun exposure, the panels can harness 1600-Watt hours or 135 Amp hours of energy per day, which is enough to charge devices, use kitchens, and operate appliances.

Whether you’re a novice or an expert with solar panels, this product is a great option to consider. With the customer service, an extended warranty, easy setup, and indestructibility, all types of RVers can use and appreciate these panels.
