While most of my camping is done by just me and my pooch Lizzie, I sometimes will camp, hike or fish with others and a good set of 2-way walkie talkies is nice to have around.

These long-range walkie talkies from GoCom can provide communication for up to 16 miles between two mountain tops, eight miles at open water, Three miles in wooded areas and one to two miles in urban areas. However, the distance may vary in different environments due to obstruction such as heavy rain or snow.

These come in especially handy when some one is helping you back your rig into a site or when you are following a fellow camper down the highway.

I do a lot of cooking in my RV, and occasionally I’ll get pan too hot and oil may start to smoke or I’m baking something the oven and it bubbles over the top on the dish and onto a cookie sheet and it begins to smoke, and that’s when it always happens.

My smoke alarm sounds, and I must make a mad dash to get it off the ceiling to remove the battery from its backside to get it silenced. This smoke detector from Kidde is battery operated, but the best feature is that its battery is located on the topside and it has a quick release battery compartment that opens with a simple push of a finger stopping the noise immediately.

A two-stage water filtration filter is a great addition if you are a full-time RVer. Too often I have stayed at campgrounds at rural and urban areas that had water that tasted awful.

This double filter water filtration device made by Camco is an excellent way to eliminate those bad tastes, mineral deposits and any other factors such as chlorine that you’ll find in most city water systems.

This RV water filter is easily installed at any campsite and uses the standard fittings found at most campgrounds.

Another great device I’ve found for 2021 is the SoftStartRV. This gadget reduces the amount of power required to start your air conditioning units.

Typically, when an AC unit starts up, it drains a lot of power which can cause issues when your RV is plugged into a 110/120-volt power outlet or operating from an alternative power supply such as solar panels.

This tool is easily installed, and it reduces that power drain by 65-70% each time your air conditioning unit initially begins to cool your RV. It’s a great tool for any RVer and especially for those of us that love to boondock.

This is the most expensive item in my list of must have gadgets for 2021 for any RVer. However, this camera is well worth the cost.

Its built-in microphone and its front and backside screens make ideal for filming videos or still frame photos. It’s also resistant to most weather conditions and suitable for diving underwater to up to 33 feet. Another nice feature of this GoPro 9 camera is that it has a great stabilization feature, and it can be used to live stream on social media or connect with friends or family on various platforms. Additionally, its high-definition technology allows it to film or photograph using the zoom lens or the standard settings and they both produce high quality results.

If you’re an aspiring YouTuber, Instagram poster or just an average RVer that wants to record their travels, this camera is the one you should choose.

I love alternative power, so I was excited to see this light on the market. Made by Luci, it’s a portable lamp that is collapsible and powered by solar energy.

Just like a beach ball or any blow-up pool toy, this light is inflatable making it easily collapsible and equally easy to store when not in use.

Since it has a solar panel on its topside, it’s self sufficient and only requires a few hours of sunlight to keep it working when you need it.

This model has two settings. For more intimate times, it’s lower light setting may be the choice for you, but for gatherings such as holidays or potlucks with other RVers, you’ll appreciate the added light.

Mesh retainers are a great way to keep items in place while you’re on the road. I use several of these Britta Products retainers to keep many of my items secure while traveling.

For example, I have a small cupboard that I installed in my rig for my spices, and seasonings. While it doesn’t have a door, I did incorporate a dowel to keep the items in place while I was traveling. It didn’t work, and I found a lot of those high-priced spices on my floor whenever I came to a new campsite. Installing mesh retainers has made organizing my RV much better while on the road.

I know we’re all not dog lovers. But I am. This water bottle from Tuff Pupper is an absolute must for the RVer that travels around with their four-legged friends.

I’ve spent many hikes with Lizzie and I’ve always carried a few bottles of water for the two of us. Quite often I had to dump her water on the ground and hope that she would lick it up before it seeped into the ground. To be honest, sometimes it just didn’t work.

This bottle by PupFlask is a great alternative to that problem as it has a 27-ounce container for fresh water, and it has a flexible sleeve that when extended provides your pooch with a perfect bowl to have a drink from.

If you’re a dog lover and one that takes their best pooch friends out with them to explore, hike or even on short journeys, you should consider purchasing this water bottle. It’s money well spent.

And finally, while a lot of you RVers don’t travel, hunt, fish or stay in the Northern climes of the United States during the winter, some of us do. Consider buying a Kromer Cap. They’re made where I grew up and they’re a great product!

Thanks again my friends for following along on my column, I sincerely hope to see all of you out on the road while my pooch Lizzie and I continue our travels.
